Plaza Tapatia is celebrating 25 years in Asbury Park.
Plaza Tapatia, 707 Main St., Asbury Park has been a family institution in the city for the last 25 years. Owner and restauranteur German Garcia and partner Charlie Interrante have revitalized the restaurant space just in time for summer.
Adding to the classic, Mexican folk-art aesthetic, a fresh coat of paint has breathed new life into the space, as well as more contemporary furniture and updated lighting fixtures to build a warmer environment and enhance the ambiance. owners said.
The menu has been pared down to ensure the highest quality in ingredients.
Maintaining authenticity at a restaurant with a 25-year history has always been Garcia and Interrante’s top focus.
“We don’t want to remove the nostalgia or take anything away from what Plaza Tapatia has to offer. We’re just trying to make Main Street Asbury a viable hospitality destination,” Interrante said.
German Garcia opened Plaza Tapatia 25 years ago with the idea of passing the restaurant down to the next generation. Garcia’s daughter Alejandra has moved into the role of co-owner, utilizing the knowledge and wisdom she’s gained throughout the last couple of decades by embracing the growth and rehabilitation of the surrounding block, including Main Street.
“Over the last 20 years, I experienced my first home (the restaurant) grow from a small place for locals into a well-known Mexican restaurant that has had a great impact on Main Street. It has invited people from all different demographics to try the rich and inviting culture that my parents grew up with and are so proud of. I am super excited for everyone to come in to see all the improvements that have been made and continue to share all the amazing food and drinks. Even after all these years, I still cannot get enough.”
Plaza Tapatia is open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner and offers a special lunch service on the weekends. For more information visit www.tapatiarestaurant.com.
