coaster-news-200-newThree Bradley Beach police officers will be riding in the Police Unity Tour Sat., May 9 to memorialize those police officers who have died in the line of duty from the borough as well as other municipalities.

This is the second year the borough police have participated.

The event raises awareness of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, and to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.

“Our officers are part of the couty team,” said Police Chief Len Guida. “This is a good thing for law enforcement in general.”

The Tour involves various officers from the East Coast riding bicycles from their respective locations to Washington DC, stopping along the way to promote the event. Each officer must raise a minimum of $1,800.00 to participate.

The Bradley Beach officers participating are Police Officer Michael Tardio, Det. Detective Anthony Murray and Lt. Charles Zulla.

The tour will be riding from Red Bank and will stop at Riley Park for a Memorial Service between 9:45 and 10:30 a.m. to honor Jack A. Wright and Charles M. Cozzens, fallen Bradley Beach Officers. The Tour will continue to honor other fallen officers at numerous locations along the way and arrive in Washington DC at the National Law Enforcement Memorial on May 12.

A candlelight vigil will then be held at the Law Enforcement Memorial site in DC on May 13th to remember all of the fallen from 2014.

The initial team registration fee is $1500, and will be funded by The Memorial Day Festival Committee which is proud to be able to support this worthy cause.

Over a seven year period thru May 2015, donations have totaled $133,600 which the committee has provided to various organizations in Bradley Beach including the Alliance for Drugs and Alcohol Abuse, Fountain Restoration, The Jaws of life, Digital Speed sign, Library, Ladies auxiliary, First Aid and the police canine division.
