Imposing three-hour parking limits along Main Avenue in Ocean Grove during the summer is a discussion expected at the next Neptune Township Committee workshop.

The Ocean Grove Chamber of Commerce urges members to attend the May 14 meeting. The limited three-hour parking would be on Main Avenue, between Central and New York Avenues, and in effect between June 15 and September 15.

Also under consideration is three 15-minute parking spots for both banks and the hardware store on Main Avenue, to be in effect from May 15 to September 15.

Township Business Administrator Vito Gadaleta said the matter will be discussed in the workshop session.

“We may not be introducing it (as an ordinance) but it will be discussed to make sure all members of the governing body are amenable to it,” he said.

He said an ordinance is more likely to be introduced at the May 24 meeting, if it appears that the governing body supports it.

The Chamber of Commerce, the Ocean Grove Homeowners Association and others have been advocating for some meaningful changes to increase parking in Ocean Grove, especially during the summer.

Many ideas and proposals have been kicked around over the last two years, and three-hour parking was among them.

Barbara Burns, President of the Ocean Grove Homeowners’ Association, said her group has been pressing local officials to impose a three-hour parking limit but that they have never gotten a commitment.

“If they introduce an ordinance, that would be wonderful,” she said.
