Pickett, who was picked 20th overall in this year’s National Football League draft, will be in attendance as the township AYF practice field will be named after him.

“It’s something for us to honor and recognize Kenny for his success,” Mayor Chirs Siciliano said. “It’s an inspiration for any youth in athletics.”

The former Ocean Township High School Spartan will play quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Siciliano clarified that the event is not an autograph session. He said naming the field after Pickett is the township’s humble way of honoring the hometown professional athlete.

“We can’t reward him with a $20 million dollar contract but we can dedicate something to him,” Siciliano said with a laugh.

“Kenny has shown us how far you can go with a little hard work and dedication,” Siciliano said.

Pickett graduated from OTHS in 2017 and played collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh. He continues his football career with the city’s professional team, signing a four year rookie contract.
