By WILLIAM CLARK
Every year Ocean Township golfers have to find other courses to play once the William Larkin Golf Course goes into hibernation for the winter.
Next year, those looking to take some swings as the snow falls will have the ability thanks to the township’s new golf simulators right next door to Larkin. Dubbed the “Christopher Siciliano 10th Hole” in honor of the former mayor, who has a well known affinity for golf.
With an anticipated opening of May 1, depending on the arrival of final materials, township residents will be able to step into state of the art simulators.
The project, a benefit of a $74,000 Local Recreation Improvement Grant, has been in the works for almost a year. The township was able to purchase four machines to go with the refurbished building at 1001 Wickapecko.
Recreation Director Mike Butrico said that all other aspects of the project have come in on budget.
The new space will be a revenue generator for the township with available rentals and memberships. There will also be an area for meetings and events. Butrico said that there will be a grand opening soon with light fare and refreshments.
Residents will have the opportunity to purchase memberships towards the end of April but some aspects of the booking process are still being finalized with the software vendor.
