A Belmar man, recently arrested in Bradley Beach in connection with a burglary charge, has been arrested in Ocean Township on the same charge.
On March 6 at approximately 9:30 p.m. Police Officer Charles Weinkofsky was dispatched to a business on Valley Road for a report of a motor vehicle burglary. The victim reported that while he was inside the business for several hours, his vehicle was entered and items were removed. A few days later on March 9 officers took two more reports of motor vehicle burglaries, one at the same business on Valley Road and one at a business on Lawrence Avenue. The victim from Lawrence Avenue observed the subject inside of her vehicle, but he fled as she approached him. An officer and his K-9 partner from Bradley Beach responded in an attempt to locate the suspect, but they were unsuccessful.
Det. Zachary Rhein was assigned to conduct a follow up investigation in reference to these burglaries. He was able to view surveillance video and the suspect was identified as Andrew James Newman. Rhein located Newman at a motel in Belmar and he was transported to police headquarters. Newman was advised that he was under arrest and being charged with the burglaries. Newman declined to provide a statement to detectives and he was processed before being committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
