Ocean to Resume Summer Rentals

Ocean Township will begin to allow summer rentals to resume on June 21 after imposing a moratorium on them about one month ago.

Mayor Christopher Siciliano said the moratorium was in response to the Covid19 virus while township officials reviewed the situation.

“We wanted to review the situation and see what else we can do to minimize (the virus) impact to the community. People coming to summer here are not local but from outside the area and we want to keep the area as virus-free as possible,” he said.

“We thought it was a fair compromise to end the moratorium at the end of June. It gives us more breathing room and lets us try to get things under control,” he said.

The mayor said state officials have left it up to local municipalities to make their own decisions regarding seasonal rentals.

“I think this is all in the best interest of residents. Hopefully we will lower the infection rate here and in the towns around us by practicing social-distancing guidelines and minimize the spread. It really comes down to basic math. It is in the best interest of the community- it really is,” he said.
