Michael F. Muscillo, the current Administrator of Tinton Falls, was appointed Ocean Township’s new Township Manager at last week’s Township Council meeting.
Mayor Christopher Siciliano said Muscillo, who starts his new job June 29 and receive a $170,000 annual salary, was the most qualified, has a great background, and has already done this job in other towns.
“He knows the issues and legal processes that happen here. He is aware of all conditions and this is a step well-taken,” he said.
“We got the best possible person for Ocean Township,” Councilman Richard Long said.
Muscillo, who attended the meeting with family members, said he was “very excited” to work in Ocean Township.
“This is one of the premier positions a manager can have,” he said.
Muscillo was previously the township manager for Lakewood from 2010 to 2013 and before then was the Municipal Administrator in Hazlet.
Township officials said more than 35 applications for the position were received and that 11 were invited to come in for an interview.
Muscillo is a graduate of Long Branch High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government at Montclair State College, graduating in 1995.
He earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Valdosta State University, located in Georgia, in 2006.
Gregory G. Fehrenbach, a former Ocean Township manger, had been temporarily hired to fill in for Township Manager Andrew Brannen, who attended his last public meeting on Thurs., Feb. 23. Fehrenbach was township manager in the late 1970s, prior to the hiring of former manager David Kochel.
Brannen had been the township manager for almost 10 years. He left to accept a position at Kean University as vice president of finance and administration. His last day on the job was be Friday, March 3.
