A Garfield man was arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with an incident in the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township Nov. 5.
Police said at approximately 3:45 a.m. patrol officers were dispatched to Sunset Avenue near Walnut Avenue for a report of shots fired. A short time later, a victim was located at a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
During the follow up investigation, Shakeem Watson, 31, of Garfield was identified as a suspect and he was taken into custody. After several follow up interviews were conducted by Detectives, it was determined that Watson was the sole actor in this incident. Watson was charged with Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Burglary, Theft, Obstruction of Justice, and Criminal Trespass.
Watson was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Facility pending his court appearance. No other suspects are being sought at this time.
