The Ocean Township Police Department has designated a parking space in the east parking lot as a “Meet Up Spot” for those concerned about safety after making online purchases.
The “Meet Up Spot” is intended to address the safety concerns brought about with online purchases from websites such as Craigslist, eBay, Facebook groups, Offer Up, classified ads and others.
The one designated parking space has been clearly marked for the program where buyers and sellers can meet and make the exchange. The marked area is under 24 hour video surveillance which is recorded by surveillance cameras.
The police department has no known transactions that have gone awry, however the department is committed to putting community safety first. Police said although the department is implementing the program to provide a safe area for buyers and sellers to meet, residents should remember that people you meet on-line are strangers and can pose dangers. Not every buyer or seller you meet on-line is someone who is true with their intent.
The police department will not be used to make illegal transactions of narcotics, dangerous or deadly weapons or any other dangerous materials. Residents who have questions should contact the department at 732-531-1800.
